Sorry lads, iam no good with gears cables ect, i can take out wheels and fix punctures but thats about it,
Im not even going to try to muck about with small screws ect,
I will let a mechanic at the local shop have a look.

Its the rear large cog it wont stay on, just wondered if it was easy fixed,
I have since been told if you dont know anything about gears, then dont touch them,
Have booked it into my local shop tomorrow.

sounds like rear to me and sounds like the upper limit screw needs opening slightly

now we know the whereabouts of the problem - the above sounds spot on to me. Let us know what the LBS say....

Could be the screw, but it could also be the shifter. If you had a downtube friction shifter and it was just a bit loose, it could easily slip back just a touch from (maximum tension) low gear end. Not that anyone has downtube friction shifters these days...but maybe the same thing could happen with other types? Don't know.

That's true but adjusting gears (especially rear gears) is quick to learn and easy to do.

All's well that ends well.

You might at some point like to go and have a poke around http://bicycletutor.com/ - fixing bikes isn't difficult, it's actually quite satisfying, and you can save yourself quite a lot of money.
