Gear Changing

The rear lever (from memory) on Shimano 2300's will allow for changing up to 3 gears with the push of the lever.

In my experience 2300 and Sora will provide two down shifts with one sweep of the lever, Tiagra and 105 will provide three downshifts.

I stand corrected. Heck I can never remember which is an upshift and whick is a downshift. Let alone which one is a high Gear V's Low gear.

high gear and low gear I remember the same as a car and numbers. the slower the speed, the lower the gear, the lower the number. of course now I wait for someone to tell me its the other way around on a bike!

Only kidding, I have no idea. I just know which one to press if I want to pedal faster and which one to press if I want to pedal slower.

That's the one. Try explaining it to your 9 year old when out for a ride with her. "Go up a gear". "That's down, no wait... Ach change gears yourself! "

She seems to forget the gears and end up spinning out or standing up on the smallest casette gear.
