Gear changing failure - choice to make

A new inner and outer cable would be my first attempt at a repair. IMHO, most gear changing issues are cable related.

Tends to effect shifting down the ratios more than up them though up tends to be sluggish. I have just done the cables yesterday as shifting had become a bit sluggish (yes I do clean my cables often)
@BrumJim Personally having had a similar issue with a Sora 3400 a few years back I opted to upgrade from the thumb shifter to the then 105 triple 5700 what bliss, not only do I have superb range but a close set of gears,

Went for a full 105 upgrade. Sale on at Wiggle, and I get a full groupset upgrade including brakes. I already had the new wheels waiting, and they will take an 11 speed cassette.

Just need to upgrade the engine on top now.
