Well it really was spooky. The guy told me how many times I'd got a position fix, where I was and for how long,,,,,

But had you at this point already connected it to your computer? Had you installed some software that came with it? Perhaps it had already 'phoned home'?

I had attempted to install TOPO GB. Got a message about 'cannot unlock maps'.

Tried again. Went out into the street and walked around getting an initial 'Recieving satelites'. Done. The time was 21:20ish, well the guy said it was.
I was out in the street, with good satelite reception. Switched it off. Restarted it. The guy told me I did, at 21:30, for 4 minutes ( cus it was bloody cold out there ).

How did he know?

Did you plug your Garmin back into the computer after going outside?

Something else Garmin knows:-

Warwick, Warwickshire, is bloody dangerous. I asked for a route home and it would NOT direct me through Warwick town.
