Garmin help

Posted this in another forum, but probably should have put it in here really.
I've got a garmin edge 800 but I can't for the life of me download a map to it!
I've got the map on my PC for a recent sportive I did and I would like to re try the route in summer but as I say I'm struggling to copy the map across.
Any help is much appreciated

Have got the map on Garmin connect? You can click "save as course" on the trace of your ride - then goto the course and click "Send to Device" with the Garmin attached and it will show up on the device course list.

:EDIT: if you just have the map as a TCX/GPX file. Just drop the file into the "newfiles" folder on the device. That should do the trick

Unfortunately its saved as a pdf so not sure what i can do about that.

Nothing unfortunately. You could use a service like http://ridewithgps.com/ to plot the route yourself, copying from the PDF route (assuming there is enough detail) and export the TCX file from there.

Did you have the Garmin when you did the Sportive?
If so the ride should be in the history so you could just follow it again?

If you didn't then maybe replotting the route yourself might be the best way to go.

Had it but forgot to turn it on so it was an ornament for the best part of 75 miles

Managed to get the map as a GPX to my pc then copied across to new files as suggested and hey presto!

One thing i have noticed though is although Garmin technology is really good it is also really unfriendly to use unless you are very tech savvy.
