so....what maps are best?........I see city navigator for sale....are there any good free ones?

Open Street Maps are free:thumbsup:
You can download the maps you want onto an SD card - there's a link to a tutorial here.

As you seem to having download/upload problems, you may prefer to buy a SD card with the maps already on it. All you have to do is insert the card into the Garmin. Available here.

I've had problems with Garmin Express, was working but then failed after running updates - a couple of Interweb searches recommended (a) uninstalling and cleaning the Registry before re-installing and (b) making sure .Net Framework is updated to V4 or above before installing.

Haven't tried either yet as I'm still running XP so suspect it will fail anyway, meantime I'm just manually uploading as others suggest above.

Never had any problems downloading installing or using any of the Garmin software and I suspect that if there was a problem with anything Garmin did the forums would light up like a christmas tree with in minutes.

This is what helps garmin to be so popular, if Bryton did it, Garmin would have a serious competitor, also if Bruton dumped their bdx format in favour of a tcx as standard.
Its the ability to copy files to and from the device, be it maps, courses, history that works so well, I disabled Garmin Express, and just do manual uploads.
