Ok...here I go again...needing help lol!

I have a new garmin edge 800 and need to download garmin express software. However mozilla firefox wont allow the download thowing up a message saying I need to allow it through my firewall.
I'm not sure how to do that.
I found a place in firefox to allow exceptions but that didnt help.
I added an add on which placed a small S in a red circle icon top right of my browser and it allows me to add in url of trusted sites. I added garmin s in but that doesnt work either.

If anybody has trodden this path with garmin before and wishes to re live the pain so that I may be relieved of my sufferring I feel sure you will be rewarded with eternal life and endless festive virgins ! TIA.

Can you download other files ? Which Windows version as the latest you may need to look at the firewall settings in control panel and security

I had no trouble downloading the Firefox add on but haven't tried anything else. I will try.
Windows 7
I've just uninstalled chrome in favor of Firefox as chrome was causing my fan to stay in warp drive all week.

This is BAD.Garmin need to make this a lot more user friendly. The support from garmin sucks as well.

Ive allowed it through firewall in the browser and windows. No ther software I have installed has any issues working just this garmin express.
Bloody useless. Bah humbug:thumbsdown::thumbsdown::thumbsdown::thumbsdown::thumbsdown::thumbsdown:

I still use the old plugin too. But if all else fails, you can upload manually as I said before, you do this by accessing the Garmin like a removable drive.

Click, upload > manual upload > choose file then navigate to the Garmin and find your activity in the activities folder (you can order them however you want to make this more efficient.

Seems a little long winded I suppose, but I already do it this way for Golden Cheetah and Training Peaks (don't use the auto upload because I need to match up the activity with the planned workout my coach has put on there for me) so I don't think it is much hassle.

You have Communicator Plugin.
Up to Date, Version 4.2.0.0

Devices Detected
  • Edge 800
I had this already installed but its also not working. Hmmm......ok Ive done this:

Installed and run programmes properly
Connected edge 800 to laptop via cable supplied in edge box
Tried two other cables
Gaermin is charged 100% but has no additional sd card fitted yet (does that even matter?)
Ive gone into my firewall and proxy settings and allowed garmin.com
Ive disabled my firewall temporalliy and tried but it still doesnt connect
Ive tried three different browsers
Ive re booted several times after changes
Ive updated windows

I have microsoft security essential installed as virus protection.

What did I miss ?

Clearly its an issue here then if you can run it ok Mort ......hmm......why are things never clear? lol!
