Garmin Etrex Legend not recognied ?

When I plug my second hand Garmin Etrex Legend into my computer it doesn't seem to recognise it ?

Do I need to download something ?

Any suggestions ?

assuming some recent sort of windows or other just download the garmin usb drivers and garmin communicator plugin for your browser
