Depends what you're expecting from it. It's the most basic of the garmin range

Really depends what you want to record on your rides, dist, speed etc..., but at that price a sound investment.

As already said, if it is just to be able to connect to your computer and download your rides it will show your route, average speed, maximum speed and an estimation of elevation. You can also download routes to it but they only show as a very basic breadcrumb trail.

Only you know if this is adequate, or if you are likely to eventually want to be able to use a heart rate monitor, cadence sensor and proper maps in which case you would probably be better off going for ones higher up the range.

Like said before before other posters, it depends on what you're wanting, or expecting.

I use to record my rides on my smartphone, (I still do really) but I wanted a bike computer so I could see numbers in real time, I tried a < £10 Aldi bike computer, but the magnet sensor died so I started looking for replacements and I thought if I'm going to spend £20 I might as well look a little higher for a better device (I think that may be a flawed cyclist logic tho) considered a Garmin 200 a worthwhile investment, easy to fit on the bike, easy to snap off, easy to upload ride data, as before I was using Endomondo to record the ride as I didn't like Strava for recording, but liked uploading my rides to Strava, Garmin has made this all a bit easier, so for me it's felt worth it. The 200 is very much a basic, entry level device though, but it holds it's price on eBay second hand for around £50-60 pretty well last time I checked so it is able to recover a lot of the funds if you decide it's not for you.

Planning to use the breadcrumb trail for a map later on when it gets warmer, and I go further out, but as yet haven't tried it. With waypoints it's also meant to be able to give an alert for 'segments' if you're into Strava.

Brilliant little thing. Dirt cheap. Stupid easy to use. Battery lasts forever and ever between recharges.

Not interested in HR & Cadence. Route thing works fine although I only tried it to see how it worked - I find it easy to memorise routes off of an OS map so have little need for this function. Might use it in 'unknown' location though.

Brilliant thing - no-brainer purchase imo.

is the Garmin edge 200 that Aldi are selling worth investing in?.

I picked one up today and used it for the first time this afternoon. As everyone has said, very easy to use and it does exactly what it says on the tin. Really happy with it and it's added another aspect to my rides.

Better get in there quick as my local Aldi old out within 12 mins and I managed to nab the last one.... Phew !
I think a sound investment as it saves using your phones battery and although basic, it gives/tells you all you need to know. I purchased one knowing that if I got along with it then I'd upgrade to a 510 or something towards the end of the year.

i have been thinking the same for a while now and went out today and bought one

First ride using new Garmin 200 unit and the ride that i thought was just over 10 miles turns out to be 11.52 miles !!

But still took the same time ie 44 mins at an average of 15.6 mph so more than happy with that , the Blue Soens seemed quite happy trundling along as well

I love my Garmin, it never fails to pick up a signal unlike phone apps. My only we gripe is no clock on main display but hey that's just a personal preference.
Unless you are switching device between bikes I would recommend investing in one of these also. It gives more flexibility on where to mount the unit.
