Garmin Edge 1000

What do you guys think about the new Edge 1000? I've saved a few bob and was wondering if I should buy it now or not. I currently use my iPhone 4S and it works perfectly, but I'm looking for something that tailors to cycling only and also lighter, smaller and maybe better speed readings. Size isn't a problem for me as an iPhone is bigger, so it would be nice to have a smaller item, but it would be big to older users of the 810 e.t.c

I'm also wondering if the Edge 1000s price will drop in a few weeks to a month or does it slowly decrease? I've been looking on Ebay and the cheapest is from Israel at
£344.90 with free postage, but I don't trust it.

Any advice is welcome. Cheers - TLC

If you buy it now you'll be a guinea pig for the operarting system.

I've doen some research and it seems even the 1000 version of the new Garmin Edge is terrible. Bluetooth problems and all sorts. I'll probably just by a power meter and hook it up to iPhone.

I've had mine for a couple of weeks now, you'll find my initial thoughts on the other Edge 1000 thread.

Since I got it there has been a firmware update (2.30) that has for me removed all the bluetooth issues (iPhone 5s) and screen issues. Most of the poor reviews relate to the previous version (2.20). So for me it's now in the state that the features are useable. There still seems to be problems with segments, the garmin implementation isn't even close to Strava.

For me the big thing is the screen. It's excellent. Maps are clearly visible when following courses and the data screens can be read even in bright sunlight. Much improved over the 800. The maps also seem pretty good and the navigation works well for me. Not really bothered about the bluetooth stuff. It works well enough now and I used it once so someone could follow my Livetrack, but I don't need text and call alerts, I can feel the phone in my back pocket anyway.

However it all depends on what you want. If you don't need the navigation features or the bigger screen. The 510 is probably a lot better value. The firmware could still be improved, but it's working fine for me.
