You are meant to drop them into the "New Files" folder if you want the device to convert them, not just the "Garmin" folder.
Ah ok. That must be where I was going wrong last time. Cheers and apologies...
Might the conversion idea work though anyway as if something is going wrong in the conversion process, pasting them straight into 'Courses' in the required format might work?

tried that as well... they turn up quite happily until there are 9 of them.. then it fails.... (it is how I have been getting courses onto the egde 200 since the modern view came back - though not I have it back in original because in modern my edge 200 is not seen as a device I can send a course to despite it being detected by garmin express.... and they happens on 3 different machines!

@SatNavSaysStraightOn can you not just split the courses between your device and your hubby's?
You are both going the same way?
I have, but mine has issues (edge 500) and suffers from a refresh problem when following a course which basically makes it useless at following courses sadly! It is OK to a point, but that point is the moment you go off course and then you have had it - you won't get a copy of the course, you don't get a copy of where you have been and it will take it around 5 minutes after you have refound the course to tell you you are back on course. It is also really good at loosing the road (back satellite lock) and informing you that you are off course when there are no other options available and no where you could have gone to. I am frequently heard yelling at it to tell it that I am not off course! I have logged a warranty fault for it because it is beyond useless, but Garmin did not get back to me (2 weeks ago) so I will chase it again when we get home...

I have found out that connect Garmin have an android app that allows me to get the course onto my smartphone so that may help but I'm not sure you can follow it as such. We will soon find out! We leave in 2 hours.

It looks like we will probably be using the paper map concept more than the Garmin concept....

As many as will fit on the memory. Which means it will vary depending on the length and complexity of the courses.

I had tonnes of courses on my Edge 500 and I've got tonnes on my Edge 810 atm.

If you have a load of ride history or workout files on the device, clear them off to free up space.

This is also my understanding

i give them all very long names when i make them on the pc so the name doesn't fit on the garmin screen meaning i get confused and annoyed and just delete them all ad only have the one i want on there
but yes i would go through things like ride logs or what ever they are called and delete them and other things to free up space
not sure how to do it on a mac but if you are on a pc when you plug the garmin in via usb there should be an icon for it under 'my computer' how much free memory does this icon say your garmin has?
(sorry if i am teaching a granny to suck eggs as you are a it engineer )
Cheers Ed

Does anyone use running watches on their bike? I have a Garmin Forerunner 410 that i strap to my handlebars. I only seem to be able to get one ~30mile ride on it. I haven't tried for longer distances, just multiple routes. Does anyone else manage to get multiple routes on it?

I would buy a cycling Garmin, but it would seem a waste of money since i practically have the same thing just in a slightly different format.

It would seem that the manufacturers are against us in these scenarios. I have a garmin gps device for directing me in the car, one in a golf device to tell me how far away from the hole I am, and one on my bike to record my rides. If they allowed you to do everything GPS related that you could need from just one device they'd make much less money.

Now I do obviously have GPS capability on my phone too for numerous applications, but they're all lower quality versions of the separate devices that drain the battery and generally work less well. It seems that if you have more than one hobby and you desire GPS functionality for each, then you need multiple devices.

I haven't looked into this thoroughly but I believe there's a setting on Garmin devices to allow Courses to be held either on the machine or on a Memory Card. This may allow more Courses to be stored. I think all the details about this are in the online manual.
