Garmin - Daft question time... Max number of courses on a device?

I can only seem to get 9 to download to my Garmin Edge 500. When I upload the 10th (from anywhere and by any method (so tried connect.garmin, tried bikehike, tried file copy methods etc) it over writes the last file and I loose one of the courses...

Similarly on my OH's Garmin Edge 200, there appears to be a 7 course maximum...

Even if I copy the files over into the courses (or the newfiles) folder, they just vanish into thin air once the device is powered off and back on again and I am left with only 7/9 courses.

I have tried searching for this but failed, so was wondering if anyone else had encountered this problem. I haven't managed to get my edge 705 working to try it, which is a shame but...

My problem is that we were not taking our laptop on our cycle tour with us and need 13 days of cycling courses (the last 3 days having 2 options each depending on how well we were doing on time etc)... so I needed 16 courses on each device... I can get around the problem (luckily) but is there a maximum number of courses you can store on an Edge?

As many as will fit on the memory. Which means it will vary depending on the length and complexity of the courses.

I had tonnes of courses on my Edge 500 and I've got tonnes on my Edge 810 atm.

If you have a load of ride history or workout files on the device, clear them off to free up space.

I have cleared all of the activities off them. Mine had some +100 activities on it - I just went in and deleted them from the file view on the pc
The 200 has 3Mb of free space which is roughly 75% and 500 has 51Mb free. These course are 50-100kb in size which is why I don't understand.... AHhhhh :cursing:

The Edge 800 doesn't like courses without what Ridewithgps.com calls a cue sheet - I ended up recreating four or five problematic ones on the website. The recreated versions loaded ok (from "newfiles" on the Edge 800).

(I know it's a different Garmin, but just in case it's a similar problem).

the daft thing is that all of the course are coming down off garmin fine. I have copies of them (as I watched them disappear from view, I decided to copy them manually). So I know all of them are working on the 2 garmins - each one of them will be seen only I can only get 7 on the 200 at any one time and 9 on the 500. And whilst I have paper maps available, I would really liked to have had both of use working to the same score so to speak!

Oh right - that is weird!

Any firmware updates available for either device? (Although that might just mean you end up with a new set of problems...)

both are on the latest and I have even tried a master reset on the edge 200. no effect. I am at a loss... and sadly I am an IT Engineer and ready to throw them (and the 705 which just won't connect to anything other than a satellite) out of the window at the moment!

I do have a complete set of courses between them now (after an awful lot of hassle) it is just a pain in the backside... hence the 'daft question' because I was certain I also had had more than 9 courses on my edge 500 in the past as well!

Plug it back in and empty the recycling bin! Worth a try because sometimes with devices such as this, if you delete from the file view, they go into a hidden bin folder which is only cleared when you empty the recycling bin! I used to have the same issue with my Muvi Veho video camera, before it broke completely.

nope - no effect. the edge 200 now displays a different 7 files after copying all 16 over to it and the rest have vanished into thin air again....

I've recently had massive problems trying to get TCX courses onto my Garmin 500. When I pasted them into the Garmin folder nothing at all would happen - i.e. the automatic conversion to .FIT files wouldn't happen and they wouldn't be visible. Is this perhaps the problem? They're visible in the folder when looking from the laptop but not on from the device itself? I've definitely had more than 10 courses on from my latest End to End as we had a couple of options for some of the days.

I worked around it by googling and then downloading some free software that did the conversion for me and then pasted the .FIT file straight in. Worth a try?

You are meant to drop them into the "New Files" folder if you want the device to convert them, not just the "Garmin" folder.
