Hello all,

can anybody tell me what the start/ stop/ reset buttons do on the 800?

I know it sounds a stupid question, but say for example I want to visit my grandmother in her Residential Care Home and I stay a couple of hours. If I press stop when I get there and then start the timer again after my visit will it all be logged as one ride or two separate ones?

Or, does it make more sense not to switch off the timer and just record the visit as time out?

Thanks in Advance

Pressing the stop button pauses the recordings, then if you press the reset button it resets the trip. If like the 500, you turn it off to conserve battery then start it again, it will continue from where it was paused. If you have moved location in that time it will record it as a line between the two points, then continue, if you have moved a significant distance it, it is probably better to record it as two trips.
I guess it all depends how you want to record you mileage. if you pause it, strava will show the total distance as one trip, if you reset it strava will show it as two trips, the distance at the end of the day is the same.

Thanks Nigel I was hoping that would be it. I don't intend on moving any distance during the pause so it should start off where I did pause it.

Just one other problem, the elevation is I believe effect by temp, so any length stops will show a difference (usually a decrease). on the 500 you can set elevation points that when you set the comp to start recording, it will set the elevation.

Pressing the stop button pauses the recordings, then if you press the reset button and hold it resets the trip.
FTFY I had my old Edge a year before I realised that

lavoisier, my 800 is set (I think its default) to power off 15mins after the stop button has been set but it doesn't create a new ride unless you press and hold the reset button (for circa 4 secs) or you connect it to a computer and download the ride (unlikely at a care home). You just power it on and press the stop/start button again and its one ride. All the best for your grandmother!

Many thanks. She's 99 and seems to be still ticking along OK.

Thanks TMHNET looks really informative. Will give that a good reading in due course.

How are you finding the 800? I am thinking of buying one.
Thanks

I love the 800 although to be fair I don't use it to it's full potential. I would however recommend getting the OS maps
to go with it if you decide on one.
I also have the speed and cadence sensor with it. TMHNET posted (above) a really good link as to how to get the most out of the 800. Have a look at that. Personally though I'd say you won't go far wrong with the 800. Hope this helps.

To be honest, I have the OS maps and there is too much detail. I'll have to look at the free maps. The 800 is great however.
