Garmin 510 or 800

500 with HR and cadence everyday. 510 has bad reviews, 500 has excellent reviews. 800 if you want maps, but I would never use as I prefer to just take off and see where i end up.

Therefore, 500 no brainer;)

The maps are really good and helpful on the 800. Never used anything else so can't make any comparisons. However, the 800 is brilliant. Also the battery lasts all day easily.

Yeah - mine does now thanks to whoever posted the tip "turn the auto scroll off." (I reckon I can get at least 17 hours out of mine since I found that out!)

I can never turn off the beeping though on a planned route. I know I can turn the sound off, but it keeps beeping when I am off route. That's good if I am on a new route but as its just the way home, it is annoying.

There is a way to turn the beeps off. Its some option in the waypoints if you use the garmin base camp software... something like turning off the "alert on arrival" option.
I will have a look when I get home.

Great thanks. Bit odd that one can't do it from the machine. Also, for the first time last night, tried to enter a destination, how hard was that!! Could not put in a postcode or a road name, it seemed to be a American style OS. Maybe the answer is on that link too. Thanks
