...keep their ears warm in this weather?

I know there is the obvious woolly hats etc. but these make me look like my helmet is 9" off the top of my head and I am pretty sure it would be near useless if I came off the bike as it doesn't sit on the head correctly. I even cut a spare woolly hat down so it was more a head band but it just obscured my view as it kept slipping down.

My main concern is keeping a helmet on; pretty dumb not to wear one anytime, let alone when it is potentially icy. I have looked online but so far have not found anything specific to biking. So guys, any advice most welcome to keep me riding. Thanks.

Search online for a Buff.

There are "real" ones which are expensive, and buff-alike copies which are cheap but may not be as strechy/warm.

They can be worn numerous ways, and are in my view pretty much an essential bike wear item.

I use an Altura skull cap below the helmet - a freebie from Cycling Plus along with a buff which keeps the neck warm, thanks C+. In ye days of olde of course, people wore balaclavas which do the same job but conjur up images of chaps with pipes out at sea.

I also purchased an Altura skullcap and windproof (?) jacket about this time last year. Lo and behold, once a month C+ comes thru the letterbox - one due tomorrow or thereabouts.

Am impressed with skullcap and wear it more often than imagined 12 months ago.

I just wear my helmet. I find it keeps the top of my head warm. I have progressed in my old age to a buff around my neck and covering my chin. I've obviously been in the south too long.

You obviously took more effort than I did when I took a very similar shot...

I think it looks better on the dog than it does on me...

Joking aside, it should be exactly what you have in mind. A proper Buff only costs a bit more than a tenner and they are sooooo much better than the copies that they are worth every penny, IMO.
