I have a hybrid, started a new job last week so have been using my bike for commuting, over the past few days there's been a clicking from the right pedal when it's near the top and I start putting pressure on it, the pedal itself and the bar to the cogs doesn't move so I have no idea what it is
Can't get the bike to a shop during the week

Any ideas what I can look for?

it makes no noise when there's no pressure (bike upside down spinning the pedals)

Check the chain ring bolts are tight. Then pedal tight, then Bottom Bracket fitted tight, and no play - some of these bits you'll need special tools for, but a 15mm spanner to check pedals, and an allen key for the chainring bolts

Are you using clipless pedals? Can sometimes get a click from them too. Also check seat post is tight - that can click as well.

Could be the pedal bearings. The el cheapo pedals that were on my (then) new bike were pants and started clicking after about 300 miles. Had to visit the LBS to discover where the clicking was. Good opportunity to upgrade! No probs since (touch wood!)

If the pedals are worth saving, try some grease on the bearings.

is that in English? ;)

LOL,

There is a silver cable that changes the front gear. This is typically finished with a 2-3 inch tail from the gear changer. If this cable bends outward slightly it will pass into the path of the turning pedal and will set a click every pedal turn. The noise it will make is a loud click and it can be remarkably hard to find the cause. Check that the 2-3 inch cable tail is not facing outward into the path of the turning pedal. Hope that makes it a bit clearer.

Seriously....loose change in your pocket?

Ha! I was riding home with a teaspoon (don't ask) in my pocket with my keys the other week and paranoid panic set in about something wrong with the bike till I realised they were just clinking together on the upstroke...at least it was an easy fix!

+1 Had the same problem myself.

On my old bike I was getting a rumbling sound whilst moving. Thinking my bearing races had gone (old fashioned type), I took the rear wheel apart to find that the races had indeed started to fail, with a little bit of shelling on the running surface. I managed to source some replacements (not easy - generally not stocked these days), put the bike back together, only to find that the rumbling had not gone away in the slightest. Turned out the tail from the front derailleur was rubbing against the tyre!!
