FSA Omega crankset knocking problem or something else?

I am getting a knocking sound from the BB/crankset, at least I think thats where its coming from, seems in time with pedal revs, can't hear it when I stop pedalling. Mind you the Fulcrim freewheel is so noisy it may mask it, it sounds louder the more force i exert less so when spinning faster. Swapped pedals just in case and that made no difference.

The chainset is a FSA Omega BB4000, it looks like an integrated system, does anyone know if I can just replace the BB, or is it servicable, the FSA website isn't that much help here.

Anyone esle had issues with FSA kit, its only 18 months or so old and done about 4000 miles ish.

Just done mine for the same (apparent) reasons. Mine wasnt knocking audibly, but i felt a little (difficult to describe) 'knocky'...like you're pedalling and there's a flat spot.
BB4000 bearings are cartridge type, the balls are not contained within a cage, as you would have with better quality bearings.
I have replaced the bearings in the shells, but you'll probably need the plasic end seals, plus some sort of tooling to remove and refit the bearings...it is do-able but not easy...and then you end up with the shells looking a little scrappy where you've had the wrench on it.

Anyway, BB4000's are available freely, i've seen them moderately cheap on ebay, online retailers are cheaper than the LBS (obviously), but its not a cheap cheap item. If you fit them yourself you'll need a Hollowtech 2 wrench....moderately easy job to replace the BB.

Thanks, I'd prefer to fit something that'll last a bit longer are all hollowtech type bottom brackets compatible? Or am I stick with the FSA BB4000?

IIRC, the crank spindles are 19mm, that'll dictate what (if any) other BB's you can use.
I suspect you'd need to change cranks as well as BB (but don't quote me  )

Its a shame, its the budget quality of the bearings that lets the whole thing down. Just a few bob on better bearings and all would have been ok. Instead FSA have turned out a cheapo BB.
Ive put higher quality bearings in the shells, no reason now to think they'll fail for a long time...but it was a fair excercise to get them in.
