I have an FSA Gossamer Pro chainset on my bike - 46/36T.

I want to replace the 36T with a 34T but I cannot find a Gossamer Pro ring anywhere in the UK.

I can find the FSA Super Type ring in 34T at Wiggle.

On the FSA website (see link) the Super Type outer is different to my Gossamer Pro outer but the inner looks the same and has the same spec'.

Does anyone know if they are in fact the same thing?

(I emailed FSA a few days back but no reply yet - so I'm not being lazy asking on here!)

It may be from a different point in the FSA range (a bit like Shimano having 105, Ultegra etc) but provided you check it has the correct BCD and choose Shimano or Campag to suit your bike them it will fit.

The inner ring is a plain ring, so any compatible ring will fit - same BCD etc - rather than paying over the odds for an FSA ring.

When you get the 34 let me know how much you want for the 36.

As long as I breathe, I attack.
Same chainset? Did you have to remove the whole lot or did the rings slip over the spider ok?
on 2 different sets, a standard octalink BB spider and a fsa gossamer chainset .All i did was take tha chain off the inner ring so it was resting above the BB , undo the chainring bolts and then slip both rings off around the crank , swapped for the 36 and put the lot back together.Probably a 5 minute job but more like half an hour including the "dad can i have " shouts ;)

Thanks for your help guys.

I now have a 46/34 which should suit me much better - I don't use the small ring too much tbh but there are just some hills here in Cumbria that are really nasty - I'm not talking about the big Lakeland Passes, which are way outside of my capability, but the blighters that are maybe 100/200/whatever metres long, usually on a twisty gritty lane just after a sharp bend. For me at least these can be absolute killers.

Fitted in about 15 minutes, without removing the cranks, and tested on the Blooming Great Hill that my house is situated halfway up.

And whilst I was not exactly streaking up like Billy Whizz (showing my age) it did feel markedly easier.

when you drop down its like dropping down maybe 2 teeth at the back rather than spinning like crazy .

Haha! I hear ya! I rarely use my 34T. I live in quite a hilly area (North Staffs) but stick to the 50T and sometimes struggle on occasion because I hate the HUGE drop down to the 34T. I'm sure a 36T would be a better solution. Nice one!
