Hmm, when I compare the new chainring with the old one, the teeth are not lined up. They are almost centred between. Any thoughts? Would this be equivalent of chain stretch? or am I over thinking this?

As a general rule, you can replace it with any chainring with the same BCD (as your's is a 50t I would assume you have a compact chainset, as such the BCD will be 110).

There are some occasions where a certain chainring just won't fit a certain crankset right but this is relatively uncommon.

I would be interested to know how you would be able to tell when this would be the case? What other specifications would I need to check beside number of teeth and BCD?

I don't see that being a problem - after all the rear wheel rotates... :smile:
The shift-assist pins should be in (more-or-less) the same position as the original, otherwise you'll be fine I reckon.

Thanks RB you are correct. Doh! I have just spoken to Spa and they pointed it out also.
