Ouch!
Of course it's personal preference -and I haven't been badly affected by toe overlap -but I can't help but think it would only take one time when you are crossing a road turning and suddenly see a vehicle bearing down on you (that is not going to stop) and in haste you forget about the toe overlap, hit the front tyre, and you suddenly slow down or fall off. Call me a mamby pamby, but that's what puts me off. At least for my body dimensions I don't have a problem finding other bikes with no toe overlap that handle extremely similarly so I don't even feel like I'm compromizing. Again, horses for courses on this one.
The blog link my midliferrider was a good one to read -I think it tried to put both points of view fairly.

I only realised I had toe overlap when I caught my foot badly on doing a sharp turn, stopped the bike dead in its tracks and put myself over the handle bars, badly breaking my arm!
