Front shocks on a hybrid

Are they worth having, especially the ones on bikes at the £400 - £600 price bracket for full bike?

I do mainly roads, with little bits of cinder and bridle way. Tracks like those on the Whitehaven - Sunderland coast to coast are about as far off road as I get.

Cheers Paul, I guess that then begs the million dollar question of what's the most critical components?

In my view, 'cheaper' brakes are still reasonably efficient so I'd go for investing more on the gears, but even then most big brand bikes now seem to have a reasonable standard on them...don't they? Tires are quite a factor for me too.

Maybe go for slightly fatter tyres with a bit more tread, will lose a bit of speed on road but less slippy

My Crosstrail has lock out forks, I never have them unlocked! They just add weight and something more to service

In that price range, I'd look for some carbon in the forks and something fairly light and agile

Cheers, I keep thinking I'm narrowing it down and then something else pops into my head.

I know it's not the same thing and it is important, but I chuckle a bit at people shaving bits of bobs of weight of the bikes, mainly because I know I'm plonking over 2cwt of me on top of it plus any baggage like water.

I reckon I'm down to the Cube or the Giant seek, but I've an option on a second hand sirrus Elite, but I reckon I'd need to beef the tyres if not the wheels up on that.
