There are head torches and there are head torches. A £4 would probably be a bit rubbish.

I have a Petzl Tikka (pretty old) 3 LED which (cost when new about £25) - it's fine for seeing where your feet are but would be useless for riding a bike.

I also have a Myo XP (about three years old) which was twice the price but picks out things from miles away. The new MYo XPs I believe are much more powerful.

However, I have only used them for mountaineering. The XP would probably be quite good on the bike.

Oh yes, I'm only planning to use "mine" (well, assuming I can liberate it from a Little-LC) to supplement the lights on the bike .. to be able to see my computer and to give me a little help in the woods when going round a corner, trees a few feet away at low speed. I might also chuck it on flashing mode in another (probably vain) attempt to shake a few car drivers out of their heated seat induced reverie.

I imagine it might also have uses if I get a visit by the p*&^%$£" fairy whilst on my way home.

Well money being tight I have ordered 1 X Revolution Vision Hi Power LED Front Light. I will try and pick up another headlamp next week as well. Failing that I may well gaffer tape a Maglite to the frame. For what it's worth, I'll let you know how it goes.

Well the light arrived today and I am extremely impressed with it. Ultra light weight and very bright. The battery life may leaver something to be desired but once I buy a AAA rechargeable kit I'll be well away (I hope).

Mm, a bit of a challenge! I am not sure I know that many people on the South Coast. Especially called Pete.

Not Pete Lewis by any chance?

If so, did you enter this year's OMM or was last year enough for you?

Edit - Answering my own question , I see you posted on the OMM thread. Good guess hey?

I have a Petzl Tikka. It's really good.

Advice re cycling in the dark, especially out of town:

NEVER leave home without a head torch. Try fixing mechanicals without one and you'll find out way....

Might get the Myo soon. I have the old Petzl with the swivelling bezel and the big battery. Came to use it tonight and yet another battery was flat because the bezel had unscrewed and left the torch on

Took my Tesco cree instead :wahhey: It was a right bugger balancing it on my head though :wahhey:
