OK, so what do people recommend as a good night time front light? We're talking roads and lanes, but no street lights, so good visibility required. Rechargeable is good too. Budget anything from £50 to about £80. Currently have the MoonPower 300.

Get a hope vision one. There 90 and get a price match for 60-70. Saying that run two of them on AA batteries rechargeable and non rechargeable

what's wrong with your curtrent light?

I have a moon meteor (I think) which is bright enough for canal towpaths etc

Moon's are quite good, so a Hope 1 is not going to be any brighter. I've got 2 x Hope 1's and am very happy. Bright enough for unlit roads. Off road then I use silly bright lights, but that's for my MTB and I don't have to worry about dazzling car drivers, only Potsy, as he comes the other way !

Nothing wrong with the Moon 300. I've had it through two winters now, but it's played up once or twice recently and I'm thinking it'll need replacing before long, so I was just seeing if there are any better ones out there. I may just opt for another one, and may even upgrade to the Moon 500, which I've seen on EBay for £70. Spring is nearly here, and I hope to put it on the shed shelf for a few months pretty soon!

Had the Hopes about 4 years now, and by far have been the most reliable lights I've ever had - not an ounce of trouble, not once let any rain in.

Cheap and cheerful option is the T6 or U2 Cree torch with batteries.

Why is that?
2 is better than 1...gives me better option where i can have the light on the rhs set to flash and the other solid, or both on solid if I'm doing circuitS gives a better spread for me, but don't get me wrong one is more than enough to suffice night riding

ps I forgot to add the I in my sentence 'Saying that I run two.......

Oh I was wondering why one light on rechargeable and the other on non-rechargeable?

Ahh too much for one post, apologies.

With battery operated lights, it gives you the options of running them on rechargeable and non-rechargeable.

That was me aim of the message. Finally!

OK but why not have them both on rechargeable for example?
