I'd like to try some night cycling.
It would be off road, mainly unlit cycle paths and woods.
Looking for a decent front light, budget probably no more than £40
Go!

Yep T6 cree, just picked one up off EBay, UK seller £15 posted and works a treat. Arrived in a couple of days and worked well on the short test ride down unlit local lanes.

I'd never used a 'good' front light until recently, when I borrowed a friend's Lezyne Macro Drive. I was surprised by it's performance, to say the least. Inspired by that, I've just ordered a Cree (which hasn't yet arrived). One aspect of many of these lights that I don't like, however, is the rubber-band arrangement that holds them on to the handlebars.

I love cycling at night, BTW, and the more remote and dark the location, the better I like it. I was given a start the other night when a fox broke cover and ran across the road right in front of me. The perception of speed is different when visibility is limited. Here in the Yorkshire Wolds I see many cyclists during the day, but they all seem to disappear as the sun goes down. I think they're missing out, personally.

I've said this before but I'll repeat it.

CREE DO NOT MAKE BICYCLE FRONT LIGHTS. They are manufacturers of LED lighting and circuit boards.

What you actually buy is a sdsdwerwefsdf hongwei light body with a random driver board, cheap charger and god knows what the battery started life as.

Great they're cheap, but if cheap lets you down at night in the middle of nowhere?

The t6 cree variants off ebay are pretty good but the issue is the battery packs. They can be prone to fail and worse catch fire when charging.

I have a t6 but with @fossyant help got a proper power pack with reliable batteries. Total cost is about £40 going down that route iirc.

I bought one of these

, seems pretty good so far was just short of £60, if the battery pack dies ill just get one from RS spares. I have been let down in the past by a Hope light which isn't cheap junk the lesson carry a cheapo spare even if its just a flasher one.

Which battery pack is it? I've just lost my spare battery, so looking to replace it.

Fossy managed to source some waterproof battery chargers (can't remember the name), then pointed me in the direction of some good batteries. I was looking to see if I could get one of the battery chargers recently as I'd like another T6, but had no luck. Am sure he'll be along soon. @potsy had some influence too.

I didn't like the rubber band either so bought one of these, others had recommended on here, makes the light very stable and easy to swap between bikes
