Anyone recommend a front flasher for the bike, I have a Moon Xp780 for main light duties albeit, not that impressed with the battery life. However looking for something as bright as http://www.wiggle.co.uk/exposure-trace-front-light/ . I have misplaced mine albeit it was a bit battered and bruised after being run over (long story ) . Do I need to be spending that sort of money, was a cracking flasher!

If you must have a flasher, dont get a blinding one, your fellow commuters will thank me. ^_^

My view, (FWIW, which isn't much) is you don't want great brightness for a flasher. Have a good bright continuous beam for seeing with, and a less bright flasher to bring attention to yourself. A very bright flasher (IMO ... nothing scientific) makes it a bit harder to see ahead as the world is flickering on and off. So I have a cheap little cateye AA jobby as backup front light/flasher and then a bright main light. I only have the flasher going in urban riding in the hope that it may help me stand out from all the other blobs of light moving around. But I could well be wrong.

Just my tuppence ha'penny, and others may differ.

The exposure one was good in that it gave a very bright flash but also illuminated in front, think all of the exposure lights have this mode ( throbbing) ohh err . Really brings attention to you in traffic which is the main purpose.

I get your point but as another road user I find them distracting rather than attention drawing. A nice bright light should be able to get other road users attention. I used to use a flasher but Ive realised that having a flashing light signals to everyone that Im a cyclist and car drivers when they know Im a bike will pull maneuvres off that they would never try in front of another road user, ie pulling out in front of me at a junction!

In conclusion Id rather be mistaken for a slow motorcycle than a fast bike ^_^

Amen! They also suffer from the "indicator problem" in that they might not be lit at the precise moment someone is looking in the right direction, but the consequences are more severe than a failure to spot an indicator.

Ditto. I was blinded several times tonight, coming back on the Bridgewater Way. I had to keep stopping because the dazzling lights coming towards me meant that I couldn't see where I was going. I made sure that my light pointed down to the floor.

Spot on. Flashing front lights make it difficult to judge speed and distance and nothing says cyclist more than a flashing front light, and that can bring it's own problems. A good bright steady front light keeps them guessing and is all you need.

Answering the original question...if you do decide you want a flasher, then take a look at the Cree lights on eBay. I know they're cheap and might not be the best quality, but I love my solarstorm u2 lights. Very bright, and had a flash function

not really what I was after, as have a main light, just looking for a small front flasher , think I will try and replace my missing exposure trace.
