Front derailleur - High limit screw loose?

Hi all

I have a giant defy 4 compact. I understand how to position the front derailleur correctly and have got the low limit fine, no rubbing no matter where I am when on the little ring.

Only thing I can't figure - the high limit screw seems to be very loose in the thread when in the little ring, and when I switch out to the big ring and attempt to correct the high limit, the screw obviously has no effect.

So I screwed the high limit right in so its not loose in the thread, and started from scratch - setting the low limit first - but doing this creates such tension I then can't shift into the big ring. So that hasn't sorted it either. Any suggestions?

Cheers

Sounds like the thread's going so apart from the obvious new mech not much to offer. If you could get it retapped to a slightly larger size and find a suitable replacement screw it might last a while longer.

When you are setting it up on inner front chainring what rear cassette position are you in ? And likewise when setting outer front, again what rear position ?

screw it in again and start from beginning
in the small ring (make sure shifter is in low gear) pop chain onto largest sprocket at the rear, pull on cable so its tight and tighten, make sure there is no slack where it goes up (in between the wheel and seat tube)

and go from there and adjust as and when need
for high gear put it big ring and small sprocket
