Front derailier size advice needed

Hi,

I was lucky enough to get a cheap-ish Shimano 105 groupset minus the front derailier

So iv fitted everything (all fine there, quite proud of myself ) and now I need to order my front mech.

I removed my old front mech and on the inside it says 31.8, I realise that's the size but could someone tell me what's what here...

Does anyone know what the difference is between "28.6/31.8" and simply "31.8" ?

I just dont want to order the wrong one

"28.6/31.8" - means it's a band-on mech which will fit a seat tube with a 31.8 mm width and comes with a shim which can be used to make it fit a 28.6 mm frame. As far as I can tell, the only difference between the two would be the addition of the shim.

The difference is the size, but you knew that really didn't you?

The 28.6/31.8 will come with a shim so the clamp fits both sizes of frame, as yours is 31.8 you just exclude the shim

Buy the 31.8mm one.
