from 8 speed to 9 speed

2010 sirrus 8 speed what would I need to change to take it to 9 speed also with the present groupset what can i keep

any help appreciated

I'm probably forgetting something but you'd need a lot:
new shifters,
rear derailleur,
chain,
cassette.

You might be able to keep the front derailleur but I couldn't say for certain.

thanks for the info guys,it was basically so i could switch wheels with my 9 speed road bikes,was just an idea

in addition to the parts mentioned above you have to consider the specialist tools need if you haven't got them already or the cost of having it done for you.

You could still switch wheels, but, it would involve switching the freehub on the wheels as well. It doesn't take too long if you know what you are doing.

??? 8 and 9 speed should both work on the same size freehub body.

Swapping cassettes is a ten minute job with the right tools.

You would obviously need new 9-speed shifters and cassette. New cassette means new chain.
You wouldn't need to change the mechs.


frank this is what i was thinking, cassette chain and shifters the rest should be ok is that right
