This song reminds me, especially as the video is from a bar in Kerry, of a tale my gran (great grandmother) told me. She grew up in Carlow around the turn of the 1900s and it was a bit of a walk to school. She was the first in her class to get a pair of shoes (handed down to her). She was embarassed by this but was made to wear them by her parents. She would take them off and hide them in the bushes on the way.
