We seem to be slipping from the original title of “as good as or better than the original”
I’m hearing a lot of interesting covers which take a song in a new direction but only a few I would say were as good as the original.

I do think that 'weird cover versions' is a different genre to 'good cover versions' although there is of course some overlap.

Whilst I do like Madness and indeed they are respectful to their sources, and brought Ska to a wide audience, Prince Buster's original is superb isn't it?
