...I don't think the shoes are too tight - it's usually both sets of toes that freeze, just not last time. And I don't have straps, I have clip ons...
Not toe straps, but the straps of your shoes (or the laces): don't forget that your feet will swell after a while, so even if they aren't too tight when you set off, they could be later on.

Ah right, thanks Scilly. I didnt think of that. Going out tonight for an hour and a half. I'm knackered and would probably rather not but a couple of (faster) mates are coming round for me so I will. And I'll try tying my laces more loosely, although its getting warmer now...

That's why "proper" cycling shoes have straps fastened with velcro or ratchets: so you can adjust them one-handed without stopping.

The drawback with laces is that they will likely be too loose if you factor in "foot swell" at the start and you will have to stop and get off the bike to adjust them if you don't.

If you're too cold tonight then it's something to do with the setup and not the weather. Even I'm wearing my summer gear now and it's never warm in Blyth!!

Mmmm...I've been all the way across the dales to Barnard Castle and back today (driving not cycling unfortunately, though I passed a lucky few) and it was roasting even way up in the dales. We will see because its still lovely and warm out there...
