freewheel play?

Should there be any play in the freewheel. If I place my finger and thumb on opposite sides of the freewheel I can rock it, there's about 1mm of play if that, but enough to feel and hear. Is that ok?

May be your lock ring needs nipping up....There should nt be any/little play in cog .

Just checked mine .. is the play side to side or up and down..

Sorry how do I do that, I put a tool in that fits snug inside, I tryied to turn it but made a wierd creeking noice when it moved, I was scared I would break it and stopped.

The creaking sound when tightening it is normal. Give it a good hard turn until it (rather creakily) clicks a few times, then it should be tight enough.

If it still has play after you have nipped up the lock ring ... there is a problem with your free hub ..

Or you need a spacer. Mavic wheels need a spacer.

I've done 1900 miles on it, its not been modified since buying it last year from leaisure lakes (Bury) I only noticed because it sounded a bit crap on the turbo last night, due to riding it in this shoot weather and clearly Ive not cleaned it through correctly.

I would take it apart keeping the rings together .. as they come off and clean the spacer in-between the cogs

The spacer need to be clean so they lay flat against the cogs ...

It could be your freehub...Just changed mine for the same reason as you described

Its easy .... as long as you keep the cogs in the same place as they came off

The teeth on the cog are in a pattern..

Take it thats side to side...

I Would take the cog off and clean the spacers and the rings
