It would be interesting to see if other sports tested as often as cycling does I wonder how many would be caught doing stuff.

It depends on the sport, but generally probably not. However cycling has a long history (almost a tradition) of doping, and it is a sport where doping is spectacularly successful. Anything which can increase a cyclists sustainable power output has a direct and significant differential on performance. In sports based around skillsets and technical prowess the impact of doping is still beneficial, but to a lesser extent.

That said there has to be large number of cheats in all sports, just like in life. The frequency of crime is in direct proportion to the chances of being caught. Less testing, and less effective testing means more cheating.

Today's Telegraph, golfer positive for taking something to free up his ageing joints. Now what did someone say about sports with skill sets not being quite so affected? Big money, chances will be taken. It makes you wonder what else might be happening with other "seniors" who continue to play so well.

One of my colleagues was into Sports Medicine, and he used to claim that Crown Bowls used to be the sport with the highest proportion of positive drug tests

Beta blockers without TUE being the main finding

I bet those oldies are topping up on WD40, they say that will loosen up joints I hope it is on the banned list.

I know for sure I am not squirting some on my knackered knee.

"Big money, chances will be taken."

No big surprise there. So many oldies bounce round the golf course at majors.
"but then the hormone can only be detected by a blood test and golf does not conduct blood tests."

Same old ostrich stuff going on, as ever.

Is that VJ Singh? You might be interested to know that VJ has already been banned from golf in the past, for cheating by incorrectly marking his ball closer to the hole. There are also several "Usual suspects" on the doping front using steroids. But recreational drugs apart I am sure that the level of PED's is far less in golf than cycling. Just as I am sure that the level of doping in the NFL is huge.(and probably rugby as well.) The NFL hardly do checks, they are not signed up to WADA or USADA and the standard penalty for a first offence is 4 games. If the failed test is in pre-season then the warm up games count.

I was surprised by Andy Schleck's comment:

"I'm here to ride the Tour but we Schlecks are dopers and we will dope on."

OK, I may have changed a word or two... :boxing:
