What frame size (inches and cm ideally) would fit a 5' 6" man and a 5' 6" woman? On the look out for a mate and my Mother.

5'6", 52cm Scott CR1.
The same size Ridley had too long a top tube.

There's more to it than the seat tube length ;)

I know about reach and inner leg causing issues for some. The idea is to source it and then pass on the details to my mate. Mother's is a different story, it may end up a surprise (though I know her reach, etc)

Bear in mind the inside leg measurement for your mother may be longer than for a man. I'm 5'6 (almost) and have a 31.5" inside leg - I've got a medium frame on a hybrid bike.

My Daughter is 5ft.6in; and has a perfect fit with a Specialised Allez 18, in a 52cm, bike! A 54cm, was far too big; and more suited to a 5ft.9in person.

Although, Bianchi, Trek and Cube Bikes are smaller than their estimated measurment for rider size.

Allez frame sizes are large. I'm 6'1" and had an old 1998 Allez 58cm but with only 1 inch of seatpost showing.

For a horizontal top tube knock off 2cm. I now ride a 56cm steel Peugeot and a 58cm compact alu-carbon Raleigh.

I'm 5' 7" and a 50cm Surly Cross Check is a perfect fit. Made me realise that I've always tended to ride bikes that are too big for me.

I'm 5'7" too, with a 30" inside leg and ride a trek 50cm frame. Fits me perfectly. It's a women's specific design too, so the reach from the saddle to handlebars is shorter than on a man's bike.
