Hi all,
the derailleur hanger should not be welded onto the frame under any circumstances as this could break the frame. It must be bolted onto the frame.
What has happened on my bike is that the hanger bolt has come loose due to the thread breaking on the bolt and hanger so I need to buy a new hanger with a new bolt and fit that to the frame.
I have removed the current hanger from the frame but am having difficulty getting the bolt out of the frame itself.
The bolt is clearly broken.

You might be able to drill it out. Or get a bolt extractor, depending on how much of the bolt remains. Have a go if you you are confident not damaging your frame, or take it to a proper mechanic. It should be an easy fix.

The Glue that binds us together.
The eyelets to sit the wheel at the rear of my Specialised bike is currently broken.
The metal insert has come away from the frame so it is not possible to sit a wheel in properly. It can be forced back in but will not stay there.
Can this be welded firm again by a welder or can you glue it or is it actually a broken frame?
Take it to your local bike shop. Let them sort ot out. If you are not sure how to do it. They will check allignment aswell.

Hi thanks.
I don't think that the bolt threads into the frame but only the hanger.
It could be that there is a thread in the frame for the bolt which has broken as when I try to screw it out of the frame it just won't come out. I'm wondering about hammering it out?

I took the frame to the shop this afternoon with the dereileur hanger off but the bolt still in the frame.
The bloke got the bolt out easily then offered me a new hanger for £30 (I opted not as that is more than the frame is worth) and explained to me that the frame has taken a few bashings so the hanger does not sit in properly with just one bolt (later versions had two bolts, apparently) as, essentially, the frame is damaged (which I suspected).
He said I needed to file down that part of the frame so the old hanger would fit better (time and labour which he would have to chare for) and he seemed to be saying that the locking mechanism on the wheel itself should finally seal it.
It is putting lipstick on a pig and I may be better off killing the pig.

Sounds like the dropouts are misaligned. Can't imagine correcting that by filing, only by (very careful) bending. But if that is done, there's no reason a new hanger won't fit properly. And I'm also sure, if you have the exact make, model, and year of the frame, you can get a cheaper hanger. Is there a different shop nearby?
