Slightly OT but SD - I am also interested in the GPS with maps thing and am debating (slowly ) the virtues of the Etrex Vista/Legend Hcx vs the 605. Like you, I am not interested in HRMs, cadence and the other wonderful training aids which come with the 705 - it's more about practicality of setting a route on a map, getting directions and knowing when I am lost !

What are your priorities, how did you come to choose the 605 and have you considered the Legend/Vista ?

Hi Scoosh

I was checking out the etrex but didn't really like the look of it. Seems a bit old skool to me  I have been told that it takes AA batteries which could be important for some folks who do mega-milers! That's not really me though...

The 605 seems a good option shame about the price. Best part of 300 notes with the maps! If it was under 200 I would have snapped one up by now but am also looking at used ones on eBay. Although they seem to hold their price well and go for almost 200.

Still not sure what to do....

Thanks fellas - I much prefer this frame for both looks and comfort! Did a few laps of Clapham Common on it just now and it's nice  The gears ane not 100% set up right and I need a new front gear cable so I can shift the position of the front mech a bit more. I'll probably pop down to Evans @ Lodnon Bridge later for this and might "accidentally" throw a Garmin 605 into the basket just for the hell of it

Yeah but not a real double (only a Compact) also my cassette is a girlish 13-26... Having said that a couple of extra (shorter) gears would have been most welcome, climbing that thing!

p.s. Ian: Any word on your road bike? Go on, you know it makes sense...

Oi! I have the same on both my bikes, I need it for some of the hills round here.

Yeah - know what you mean. Luckily for me my commute is pretty flat
Might buy a single 29 tooth sprocket to swap out with the 26 for use as a bail-out gear though.
