Fox tried to eat my chickens

Last night in the early hours was woken by a blood curdling screech. Looked out of the window and saw Foxy Loxy making off with one of my chickens. I made it to the garden in time to chase her off and she dropped George in the process. I thought George was dead or deadish and was going to wring her neck to be sure but when I picked her up she suddenly came out of her catatonic state and is fine this morning. I'm not sure if she was more in danger of the Fox or me but she had a double lucky escape.

Have you thought of an eggloo coop, they are allegedly fox proof. A friend of ours had one (we couldn't afford one) and she never lost a hen to a fox.

He didn't say anything. He screeched. Dug up a flower bed, and then deficated in the middle of the lawn. Or at least that's what they do round my way.

So far we've had no fatalities (we got ours in August). But then they're in an enclosed run all the time we're not at home, and they get locked in the hen house overnight.

I bought an electric fence off ebay for £70 - you could try the same thing (I haven't set mine up yet). Runs off a car battery. You only need to run one wire around the perimeter of their run, about 15cms off the ground apparently and they'll quickly learn not to bother.

Charlie, as he is called round my way, usually kills everything in sight just because he can. You were very lucky.

Sorry to hear about your chickens Thomk, foxes are bas****s as far as chickens are concerned. Friends of ours lost all their chickens in broad daylight to the fox recently.
