The ones I have seen in the past have loops stitched to the shoe for the laces rather than lace-holes.

I have always been a bit dubious about this - I prefer tough simplicity.

i went for the brown rather than white ones , these have laces as well as a velcro top strap

very comfy but slippy when walking on a damp floor and not waterproof but otherwise good

I meant that I was concerned about the stitching of the loops going, meaning nothing to hold the laces. So end of shoe.
The velcro top strap is mainly, I take it, to keep the laces in place/out of the cranks, a la my Shimanos.

News of people finding reductions on cycling stuff in Aldi was puzzling me as the Shipley store has not reduced its displayed prices. In the clearance section I did find some calf warmers down to 4.99 from 6.99 and at the the till they were 1.99 !

I pi cked up the waterproof jacket after the event but it didn't have an extra discount. I just overlooked it the first time. I have come to appreciate some Aldi stuff. It is often tough and functional, good for applications like touring and commuting. Zips, often the weak point of cheap stuff, tend to be excellent.

I have had the suspicion for a while the clearance section and what is in it is down to the store manager. My local store only has glasses and shoes in the clearance section at the moment. I'm biding my time for some of the base layers and socks to end up in clearance....
