The Varium arrived the very next day - great service from Leckies.

Very nice it is too. It's the right size for sure (bigger and the arms would have been too long) though it's very definitely one of Altura's racing snake fits. And with such a design any supposed slimming effects of black are more than neutralised.

thanks again for the tip folks.

The top needs to be a tight fit for it to work properly with the wicking.

been out for a short spin with it. temperature pretty mild but first impressions are that it's a very nice combination of wind-blocking and breathability. If anyone has been wavering over this I'd encourage them to get in quick. Black only left as has been pointed out but no problem for me to slip over the compact Lidl hi-viz when it gets dark.

There are still remnants of the 'professional' cycle clothing available at Aldi
I picked up the longs at Ashington at £10 which persuaded me to try.
Anyone know if they are waterproof?

There was a bit more rummage, and certainly a pair of the X large ones there too.
There's loads of mountain hybrid mudguards there too.
