[...]Was originally going to go for the large but at the last minute changed to medium (Glad i did) not too tight just right.

Overall very happy.
Well done; a good demonstration of the value of this forum.
Having been gifted a jacket over the weekend, I am getting a refund for my returned large & leaving the varium club after the briefest of memberships. Shame, as it was a decent bargain.

Was in Aldi today, all their Pro Cycling kit from the recent 'special' had been reduced by a fiver.
In our part of Northants (Wellingborough) Aldi have reduced everything in the Pro Cycling range to half price. Plenty of jackets, socks and trousers but only a few of the other items. I guess the pro prices were a bit 'deep in the purse' for some people (me included, however I've stocked up now!).

It was Ketterings store I was in, the Wellingbro' one seems to hold more stock and their sale items seem cheaper than the Kettering one. Maybe pricing is done at the manager discretion?

I'm not sure a light like that should really be used in flashing mode

Any reason why not? It's road legal and seems a bit pointless NOT using the flashing mode on road...

Beam is tight and focused and doesn't flash at epileptic inducing speeds like the cheaper un CE Chinese versions.

Agreed- the flash is too much, I tend to use it as my main light and have another light set to flash next to it.

I'd also argue that it can be used happily to be used on unlit roads, I have done hundreds of miles this winter and last in pitch black with this set to low- maybe I just ride slower though?

What are you actually arguing about?

Do you know the cartoon Scooby Doo and his nephew Scrappy Doo?

Polish?

Anyhow - with the Tredz sign up £5 off the Moon XP 300 in the more expensive Black or Silver can be had for under £35. http://www.tredz.co.uk/

The Moon XP 700 can be had for under £55 with this code http://www.tredz.co.uk/.Moon-X-Power-700-Rechargeable-Front-Light_67119.htm

As a multi road user I prefer to see a cyclist that uses lights but judging the tone of this thread you guys are more into jackets.

When I'm in my van I'm not going to not see a cyclist using a Moon XP300 coming up behind me in my mirrors. If he's wearing a fancy jacket and not using lights, or useless lights then there is much more chance of a SMIDSY.

You guys enjoy your jackets though....

Lights all the way for me I'm afraid.

Best of luck.

If it's a single light up front then if it's on flashing it's very difficult for oncoming traffic to judge the distance you are away from them.

Even if it's not a single light, it would appear too bright to be a backup light and the above will rule.

Exactly right -cos I took a medium shirt back to exchange for a large and the person on the till said that the discounts were done against the manager's budget.

PBK have a sale on. Although some of the RRPs are optimistic, but there are some good buys, especially on their own-brand clothing. I have the Elite bib tights and Performance bib shorts and they are some of my favourite kit, especially with being a great fit on my lanky frame.

If you missed out an the Altura Varium Jacket, here is an alternative, not as waterproof but looks a nice jacket.

Biemme A-TEX Zip Through Jacket £15.99, down from £80
Made out of a mixture of polyester and A-TEX fabric, this Biemme jacket remains comfortable whilst protecting you well when the weather turns

A-Tex fabric is an innovative fabric, consisting of a microporous windbreak membrane lodged between two fabrics. The yielded results are clearly beneficial, protecting you against wind chill, rain and whatever else the weather has to throw at you, whilst you stay warm and comfy in the saddle.

Sizing Advice - please be aware that this product has an "Italian" cut. We recommend that you buy 1 size bigger for a race fit, or 2 sizes bigger for a comfortable fit.

I have the above Biemme top.

Bearing in mind I am generally a medium, I had to get an XL in the Biemme. The cut is pretty short but I like it like that.

It's a bloody good top for £15. I paid £20 a few months ago. I'd say good for temps 2-10 deg with a single baselayer.

Would you describe it as a long-sleeve jersey or as a jacket in terms of thickness?
