I just spotted me lurking by the right turn at the end of that video clip , making sure the followers didn't miss it.
Count me in as a definite Colin. Thankfully, a family committment scheduled for the 28th has just been rearranged. Looking forward to it immensely.

I am away on holiday so unable to join you unfortunately. I am running the control at the Lantern in Glasson Dock for the Red Rose 200 audax next week. The cafe is under new ownership and being refurbished at the moment , next weekend it reopens so I will provide a report on the changes for you ;-)

Hi Colin,
Put me down as a maybe. I'll consider the logic of driving for an hour or so, to ride half way home, only to turn round and go back to the car again at a later date:laugh:

Do we get a signing on bonus?
I have just checked with the Mrs and it looks like I will be able to get her to drop me off in Whalley as she wants to go to a photographic exhibition in Hebden Bridge that day.

You can officially take me off the list Colin, no progress made since my last post, if anything I've gone backwards.

For anyone thinking of signing up it is a cracking route, a half decent day weather wise and it'll be a great day :okay:

I'm sorry to hear that! I hope you make one of the other forum rides later in the year.

If you ever fancy coming over when you have a morning/afternoon/day free to do (say) a slow 30 miler with a cafe stop, just the 2 of us - just let me know. :okay:

In reply to your not so subtle hint on the fixed thread, it looks as though we will have family staying over that period. You could probably count us out anyway as the weather has not warmed up enough for dr_pink. The large numbers your rides normally attract means we missed the chance of socialising with those we haven't met before. Not a criticism, we just prefer riding together in one group, obviously not possible with larger numbers. If it had been at the end of April and not so many as last time [given there were a couple of unsociable types who were not CC members as I recall] we could be tempted. [dr_pink says could you throw in more hills].

That ride last year was exceptionally well-attended! I don't think I will ever get a turn out like that again. Well, for my eventual posthumous forum ride perhaps ...

At the moment there are potentially 14 riders but I bet at least 4 or 5 don't turn up, and if the weather is poor, maybe even more dropouts than that.

It could still be chilly in a couple of weeks time. It is certainly likely to be for the first hour or two but with luck it will then warm up.

I won't be organising a forum ride in April. We have the Spring Into The Dales audax on April 12th and I am doing the 'Tour de Yorkshire' sportive with a Scottish cousin at the start of May and I don't want to commit to too many rides in a short period of time.

I am sure that dr_pink would love the SITD route. 90% of it is on quiet, scenic hilly roads. There is just one busy section between Silsden and Haworth Brow via Keighley. A small CycleChat group usually gets together for the ride and does it at a casual pace.

I hope to organise a nice hilly forum ride to take place on 30th May in the Forest of Bowland. I rode the route solo last year and it was lovely on a sunny day. (It would be a bit horrid in bad weather though!) That would definitely appeal to dr_p, but I suspect that her racing season would be under way by then?

One way or another, I'm sure that our paths will cross again sooner or later! :okay:

The cafe at Glasson Dock coped OK with the 60 riders on the Red Rose. They are aspiring to be a bit more upmarket than the previous owners but want to welcome cyclists, and there has been a bit of a refurb. The staple favourites are all on the menu, and I am sure it will still press the right buttons for riders. Hope the weather is kind for your ride.

Cheers.

I was thinking that it was hot when I did the RRR ... I just checked and it was in June - I hadn't realised that the date had changed. I might have had a go in the summer, but I wouldn't fancy 200 km in a cold wind like the one we had at the weekend. Chapeau to you and the other 59 riders!

@phil_hg_uk - you asked me to remind you about the ride coming up ... Consider yourself reminded! :okay:

FOR SALE

I have a pair of Shimano A520 SPD pedals for sale. I only used them for 2 rides before deciding that I prefer double-sided SPD pedals. They are intended to be used on road bikes but take the standard mountain bike SPD cleats. (I have heard that multi-release cleats are not a good mix with these pedals, but have not tried them.) The pedals have a metal surround which gives more support to the sole of the shoe, and thus reducing 'hot spot' problems which some people get with SPD shoes/pedals. They are NOT for use with non-SPD shoes. The surround is not a proper platform for ordinary shoes and the bottom of each pedal is not flat. For SPD-use only!

The bearings are still silky smooth, but the tops of the pedals have minor scratches from me clipping in and out. The bottom of the left pedal has major scuffing where I grounded the pedal on a bend (:eek::eek:)!

I don't think it is worth me trying to sell the pedals if I have to pay the postage, so I thought I would offer them to those doing this ride so I could deliver them in person. They currently cost about £25 at CRC, Wiggle etc. so I think that £10 is a fair price, considering that you would probably have scratched new pedals like this yourself after a month or two of use.

Are any of you interested? First come, first served!
