I prefer Shimano to SRAM - I find the levers feel better quality and I sometimes end up going down a gear by mistake when aiming for an upchange with the SRAM double-tap system...no fun on a 20 percent incline!
To be fair I am comparing 105 to Apex so it's not exactly a fair comparison, and the missed gear-changes aren't that frequent and are probably my fault for not pushing the lever quite far enough...but then the design of the Shim system doesn't allow for that kind of error, so is a superior design in my book.

I think sram had to come up with a new method of shifting toavoid copyright is my guess.
I have sram, shimano and bar and shifters and it only takes me a few minutes to " remember" how to shift smoothly when i change.

I didn't realise that. So do Campagnolo brifters have a different system to the other two?

Yes, it's easy to 'remember'. It's just sometimes when 'giving it some' uphill I think the SRAM has clicked into the higher gear, release the lever and then find it hasn't fully engaged and drops down 2 gears.

I use Sram Force and have never had any bother, the Doudle Tap becomes intuative after a couple of rides, it did bamboozle me the first time i tried it though

Yes - Campagnolo Ergopower shifters use thumb levers on the inside of the brake hoods instead of the paddle behind the brake lever of STI. Although lower end Shimano groups also use thumb triggers. But presumably they're different enough to avoid falling foul of patents.

(As an aside, please... don't call them 'brifters'! )

Sorry, it's not a word I was familiar with until seeing it in common usage on here. So much to learn about cycling etiquette still!

It's one of those things that divides opinion - some think it's a perfectly acceptable term, others hate it... Some will say it's a useful term that's much snappier than 'integrated brakes and gear shifters' but I say just use 'brakes' or 'shifters' depending on the context.

I find 'brifters' an ugly word, but that's just me, and you are perfectly entitled to ignore me if you like!

No, I don't like it either. It's not a word I would ever say out loud, that's for sure.

Maybe the other half of shifters and brakes would be better.
Shakers.
