Food for first ton.

I'm hoping to complete my first 100 miles tomorrow. Ive done a few 75's and an 80 recently so not worried too much about the distance but, a few of these were organised events with known food stops - I don't know if there will be any on my route and i'm going solo, so ......

Will the following be enough ? - i'm planning on taking 2 large peanut butter / jam butties, 3 bananas and a mix of about 10 gels / cliff bars (10 in total). Water will be supplemented with sugary additives.

All advice welcome :-)

Big bowl of porridge an hour before leaving. Flapjack, Soreen & jelly babies

IMO forget the processed "sports" stuff, nasty IMO xx(

Squash and a pinch of salt in one bottle, plain water in the other.

Of course, take a decent amount of cash (i.e. you come across a proper establishment selling cake ;) ) and a phone

Ta for the reply but I was hoping to find out if what I listed above would be enough?

I have no idea, only you can know your body and what is "enough" - I know people who can cycle 100 miles on 2 bottles and a couple of gels; I also know people who have 2 meals en route plus a large breakfast.

Have you used gels before? Do you know what effect they have on your digestive system? What did you eat at the organised food stops on the events you have ridden? And was that enough for that distance?

To me, it also sounds that the route is not well planned if you do not know if there are options for food - it is likely that you'll also not know what options are available should you get into difficulty; have you thought about what your options are if you get caught out on your own?

Sorry if this sounds a harsh reply, it is intended as a helpful response; if you know your options then it's much more likely that you'll succeed.

Thanks all - especially Marmion. Very insightful. More food packed. Will keep a couple of gels only.
What a great forum.

Good luck. The food you listed would just about be enough for me if I had a large breakfast before the ride and it wasnt too hilly.

If you pass a cafe go in and have a decent meal. The time it takes to eat will be offset by the extra energy you will have later.

Everyone is different though my mate would knock out a 100 hilly miles on half a litre of water and a slice of fruit cake.

Did my first century 2 weeks ago and took a good amount of flapjacks ...... They're amazing !
Made them myself too

Also stopped for a pasta lunch half way and took in a few sweets.
Did the job !
Good luck

Food, real food.
You're in Britain, we have forms of real food everywhere 24 hours a day pretty much.
Have what you fancy. On a 100 miler I'd have burger and chips at around 60 miles washed down with a pint of coke. Gels for emergency use only.
