Downward are you sure about the weight? If you don't mind could you please measure it? I would expect it to be in excess of 12kgs. The reason, is that the lightest current Brompton, the S2L-X, weighs nearly 10kgs.

Yeah that's correctish
12kg apparently - Lighter than my Hybrid but heavier than my 10kg roadie. I was thinking my hybrid was 10kg !

Well had the bike for a few weeks now, The only way it fits in my boot however is if I fold the handlebars so the grips sit on the chain which means I will need to wrap the grips before folding.
Not the best of design of folders but it's 2 clips and it's done.

Nice to ride too.

Hi,

Am thinking about buying a decent folding bike (prb £500+) for 2 mile journey each side of a train ride.

Thoughts!

I'd second the suggestions that you get a Brompton - but expect it to cost nearer £900 than £500 - does your employer offer a cycle to work scheme?

The Brompton fold is almost perfect, and the bike is a joy to use.
To keep costs down, use standard lights - the 'bottle' dynamo is unreliable and will wear out your rear tyre and the 'hub' dynamo is expensive. Modern LED based lights run for ages on AAA batteries, and are more than adequate for year-round commuting.

I'd go for the 6 speed rather than the 3 too.

I'd recommend the BWR six speed as well. Mine's a M6R with the standard gearing and is OK up the local 1 in 10. Only mild regret now is not specing the P type bars.
