The Roadrat, (see my link above) is steel.

If my new adapter doesn't fit (looking less likely) I am probably going to drive to Hope to have have a look at the Roadrat.

I'm slightly worried about how easy it is to remove / re-align a rear disc braked wheel with those horizontal dropouts; I also don't want to have to bodge the fitting of mud-guards or panniers.

On the uncle-john I could never get mud-guards on the front passed the disc brake and on the rear the frame didn't have the correct mounting points.

that won't fit onto your frame.

there is another type that uses a long arm to connect to the brake boss (the stikcy out bit your v-brake fit to) and clamps over the chain stay.

not as elegant but should fit your frame.

alternative is to have a peice of steel brazed on to your frame.

Does anyone know if there is a steel frame with disc brake fittings? Steel is not in vogue for mtbs.

On One Inbred/456 are both steel MTB hard tail frames. They also do a singlespeed version. All have disk mounts. Link below to 456 frame:

Genesis Croix de Fer, Salsa La Cruz, Fixie Inc Pure Blood, Soma Double Cross DC (plus IRD straight blade disc fork) among cross bikes; Singular Cycles make nice disc-ready frames for 29" wheels.
