I have just got a new bike computer (that shows cadence as well) and am planning on fitting it this morning.

Anyhow, it is a Catseye one, and the instructions shows the "speed" sensor to go on the back wheel. All the computers I have had to date (and I have gone through a few - cheap ones that reset every time I went over a bump etc) have gone on the front wheel. Is there any reason why this one has to go on the back wheel, I can not see how it gives a better reading and it is easier to attach to the front wheel

As it's cadence, it will use one sensor to pick up the wheel and crank magnets, also cut's down on parts and wires (if wired)

The sensor will mount on the non drive chain stay, and you'll adjust it to pick up both magnets

If you fit it on the back wheel and the crankarm as fossyant says - it will measure cadence (the frequency at which you turn the pedals) puttin it on the front wheel will tell you how fast the front wheel turns which is not half as useful:smile:

As folk have said it because of the cadence meter. With my Garmin its receiver is fitted to the chainstay to record the revolution of the cranks, so it makes sense to have the magnet mounted there for speed too (on the rear wheel) rather than needing 2 separate receivers.
