I've managed to bend 3 teeth of the inner ring toward the bike, I think I tried to shift to the ring udner load and the chain somehow got wedged between the inner and middle ring and bent the teeth, Is this chain suck?

Anyway, can I just bend them back with...a screwdriver or something? This is on the BSO, so not concerned about screwing it up really...

If the bike is a BSO then it is likely the rings are steel (can test with magnet), which would be a good thing in this case because steel is malleable and not readily work hardened and become brittle, I would just bent it back with a pair of stout pliers.

One needs to plan ahead for front changes under load / uphill, and if one must then one should minimise load on the pedals when changing.

Update: Well, pliers and spanners were no use, ended up knocking with a small hammer. Just given the BSO a quick, dirty and (kind of) punishing 10mile offroad route and all seems OK. Small click from somewhere round the inner gear area so might "refine" my adjustments over the weekend.

OK, I've got more gear issues on the bike now. On the back, the chain has started jumping off the smallest cog and getting wedged between the cassette and the frame. The wheel is on tight and the gears shift fine, any ideas on this?

Sounds like the high limit screw on the rear derailleur needs adjusting. Link to what Sheldon Brown says. (It's just above the section on indexing.)

Back from a ride, BSO behaving very well indeed now, not had gear changes that smooth on it before ever.
