The detergent dispenser on my Bosch dishwasher recently stopped opening during the wash. I googled this fault and it appears to be common and so I ordered a new detergent dispenser assembly. Fitted new one quite easily but the same fault persists? The only thing I can think of is that the new unit is faulty? Anyone know much about these?

It's been a while, but have you watched this

I gave up for a while and just put the detergent in the the cutlery draw....

Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.
Also, make sure you dont have any large plates or pots and pans in the way because they could well stop the dispenser from being able to open properly

I fitted the new one no problem, however, the soap door still doesn't open - maybe a duff part? or a problem with the electronics of the dishwasher? The latter would probably mean buying a new one ;-(
I will try and return the new part.

Honestly your bosch will work fine if you use tablets and put them in the cutlery tray.

It's really tricky getting the spring that opens the door into the right position. It is also held in place by two plastic clips that break very easily. The guy in the spare parts shop told me he sold more Bosch soap dispensers than anything else in his shop.

It may work fine but not with the help of the tablets. Your tablet will just be washed away with the initial rinse cycle and then it will just be hot water washing the dishes. The dispenser is there to hold on to the tablet and put it in the water when the dishwasher is on the cycle where it has hot water recirculating round.
Try it without a tablet and you will see it works the same.

Honestly, not in my experience. I've never detected a difference in performance on our current Bosch one way or t'other nor with the old one. TLH is a dispenser and I'm a tray. No one else in the house and neither of us can tell the difference between her outcomes and mine. I've even been such a geek as to open the thing after the first rinse, which seems to happen with cold water on our Boschs, and the tablet is still there in the tray, looking a little bashed about but otherwise whole.;)

Re the problem, if you have a little door not opening it is a problem knowing if it is the little door or the thing telling it to open that is the fault. If you have tried the door then it is likely to be the thing telling it to open. So can you trace back to see how it is being told to open. May just be a faulty wire or where it goes into the door.

I had a bosch dishwasher. It did not work so I kept taking bits off and testing them until the whole thing was in bits. I gave up with it,bought a second hand replacement on ebay, and chucked the broken one out in the garden where it stood for a week in the rain before I took it down the dump.

New one did not work and only then I found I had a faulty plug socket!

Amazingly all the bits in the garden went back together and it is still working today 3 years later. Made £10 profit selling the replacement.

So perhaps it is surviving through the initial rinse to be there for the hot wash. You may be onto something. Do you use those squidgy jelly tablets? I use Lidel cheapo tablets which I think break down in any water hot or cold.

Waitrose own brand solid jobbies unless the posh Finish ones are on a super-duper special offer.

Gotta love a Bosch. The old one was fixable but TLH said it was time for a new one as we'd had the original for nearly 20 years.
