Fixed wheel

After a great ride at the weekend on the fixed, I noticed the rear end seemed a little rough, so once home flipped the bike over and checked the wheel, yep it felt rough but I wasn't 100% sure if it was the wheel or chain (it'd been a wet and mucky 100 mile ride), so off with the chain and yep it was the wheel.

Took the wheel out and thought it was a little too rough, so pulled the spindle, cones and bearings. Low and behold the cones were pitted  what has made it a pain is the bike is only 2 months old, and only 300 miles on the computer (I only ride the fixed at weekends), so I take the wheel and all parts nicely cleaned up to the LBS where I bought it, only to be told sorry but thats not my prob, however I can sell you a set of wheels, to which I said politely sod off, new bike new wheels, sale of goods act, fit for purpose etc and said tell Specialized I was the wheel replaced!! To which he said you're having a laugh they will tell you the same, but he will tell them what I said and send the wheel back if asked.

So do you think I'm being reasonable or should I only expect the wheel to last 300 miles? What are my rights other than what I said above if any?

hmm is this a langster rear wheel ? If so sounds very familiar, as mine was utter tosh before it gave up the ghost. I changed the cones and bearings on mine for dura race ones, much much better, that was until the cog bust of the threads

300 miles? LOL you are having a laugh that is plenty. Most wheels don't last more than 50 miles. The shop was right.

maybe they thought they could pull the wool over your eyes as you did buy a langster in the first place

I`ll agree the Langster ain`t massive quality as far as the wheels go but even they should last more than 300miles. My rear wheel has practically fell to bits but it has done over 2000 miles hard graft and even now its hopefully getting sorted under warranty ( see my thread thread ). Its more a case here of LBS taking the piss.

Nah - that's taking the piss. They should replace it without question - there's no question that it is 'not fit for the purpose for which it was bought'. I wouldn't even settle for sending it back: you should get an immediate replacement, no question. Print this off, take it in with the wheel and tell him to stop wasting your time.

Name & shame! That's the worst possible service you could have received.

I won't name and shame the LBS as in their credit they have now lent me a wheel, which is used but the exact same make/model etc though I do notice that its also had a spoke replaced, but yes I know I'm guilty as I bought a Langster, still its a work horse and a heavy one so it'll make me stronger.

I agree built to a price not quality but should have lasted, fingers crossed I get sorted asap

Many thanks for the link, all printed I won't go a shove it under their nose until they try again to take the piss and get out of it. Pity as they are a fairly good LBS and well respected for knowledge etc but this is now the 3rd time I've been palmed off and left feeling like I was served till the money left my wallet and after that its tough luck, I'd rather not fall out with them but if they do not sort this and fast to my satisfaction they will lose a customer and I will then name and shame when out on the club runs etc.
