I need some bicycle security urgently.

Some absolute pikey has just randomly asked about my bike outside my house.

He then asked if would like to buy his bike and guaranteed me that he hadn't stolen it.

I currently have a Doberman 4ft cable lock, apparently it is one of the better cable locks that I can carry around in my backpack but I doubt it will hold off a determined pikey for very long.

I keep the bike in my garage locked up to a work bench.

I would like some recommendations for some heavy security.

Thanks.

What about a Doberman.

Or seriously you could put in a land anchor in the garage and use a good D-Lock (you'll find good recommendations on here somewhere). The land anchors aren't cheap but they do look good. Have a look here

One thing I did see was try to limit the amount of space in the D-Lock so there'd be no room for the theif to pry it open. (sorry it's not explained very well but it was a video with theif's showing how they knicked bickes and the best way to lock them up)

Search youtube for videos on how best to lock your bike.

Get rid of the cable lock and keep the 4ft Doberman?

How secure is the garage ? What security do you have on the main door - side doors windows. My security prevented a scum bag getting in to my garage on Friday... :becool:

My bikes were d-locked to a ground anchor, and various wall anchors. Lower value bikes have a cable lock.

Garage has numerous locks on the main door, and the window is fully barred - so Mr scum bag, removing all the beading, then removing the glass, then breaking the additional perspex still won't get you in. Don't try it again as it's alarmed, I've doubled up the number of steel bars, and an angry cyclist will come out and batter you !

When it comes to Security - Dobermans are the dog's bollox?

More seriously......

Ground anchor +1

Abus Granit +1

Then add a "defender" to the garage door to prevent it being opoened

40x40x3mm Square hollow section, with hidden 1.5 inch black bar rotating inside it.

If they use a hacksaw the round bar just spins, if they use a angle grinder it will shatter the blade.

Does anybody not think that the better security would be to just batter the guy so he knows not to mess with you? ;)

Seriously though, keep it in the house. Unless he's determined he won't bother trying to nick it from inside.

I made something similar to that for my dads garage. Good shout putting bar inside.
Just got my first road bike and the mrs said where you gonna keep it. It'll have to go on the shed. What, the stinky damp shed with the rotten door. I don't think so. It's going in the spare room. But there's no room, yes that's cos it's full of yout clothes and the bairns old toys.
